Alice Pasquini –’Believe It Or Not’
‘Believe It Or Not’ [Credici o meno]: con queste parole, Alice Pasquini conduce lo spettatore alla scoperta di uno spazio che raffigura un lato significativo e inaspettato del suo lavoro. Uno spazio dove le illusioni accadono su più livelli. Tra colori tenui che emergono tra l’apparente bianco e nero e strati di figure e frasi che sembrano scomparire e materializzarsi sulle pareti, Alice ci trascina in un mondo di personaggi surreali. Questi personaggi, che vivono la loro vita tra magia e illusione, ci trasportano al tempo dell’infanzia, quando trucchi e giochi erano percepiti come una fantastica realtà, non ancora contaminata dal cinismo dell’età adulta. Credere o non credere? In questa stanza ci viene chiesto di abbassare la guardia e immergerci nel mondo oscuro di Alice. Solo in questo spazio chiuso l’artista può rivelare un nuovo aspetto del suo lavoro, ossia quello che si fonda sulla costruzione di misteri e apparizioni che sembrano dilagare su ogni superficie disponibile. È la dualità dell’artista ad essere in mostra, svincolata dai confini dell’arte pubblica. Allontanandosi dai colori vivaci che caratterizzano il suo lavoro pubblico, la collocazione in un ambiente chiuso facilita l’apparizione di personaggi marginali inondati di nero, e, non senza una nota nostalgica, reclama un ritorno alla nostra gioventù, quando fantasia e illusione ci facevano credere che tutto era possibile. –

‘Believe It Or Not’ – with these words, Alice Pasquini brings the spectator on a voyage through a space that depicts an unexpected, impactful side of her oeuvre. A space guided by illusion on many levels, from subtle colors that emerge from the seemingly black and white color scheme to the layering of figures and phrases receding and materializing from the walls, Alice draws us into a world of surreal characters. These characters, who live their lives based on magic and illusion, transport us back to childhood, when tricks and games were taken as fantastical fact, not yet overridden by the cynicism of adulthood.
Do we believe or do we not believe? In this room we are asked to let down our guards and immerse ourselves in this dark world of Alice. Only in this interior space can the artist divulge a new aspect of her work, one that is built on constructs of mystery and apparitions that seem to pour from every surface of the space. Unbridled from the consideration of public art, the artist’s duality is on display. Moving away from the vibrant colors that define her public work, this interior setting permits the apparition of fringe characters bathed in black, calling for a return to another era, when fantasy and illusion made us believe anything was possible. –
