Basta vedere i Berlin Kidz calarsi con una fune dai tetti di Berlino per dipingere illegalmente dei palazzi, osservare le maschere dipinte della loro tribù metropolitana, guardarli cavalcare i vagoni della metropolitana mentre rischiano la loro vita, per capire che i graffiti non sono più un gioco da ragazzi come negli anni ‘80. Al pari del surf, dello snowboard o del mountain biking, i graffiti sono diventati uno sport estremo praticato tanto per piacere, quanto per sentire scorrere l’adrenalina nelle proprie vene. Col tempo, si sono strutturati, hanno dato vita ad una vera e propria industria che produce bombolette, streetwear, eventi, ma le regole del gioco sono cambiate poco o nulla. Tutto si basa ancora sulla capacità di far girare il proprio nome: getting up. Per questo, in un mondo che si divide tra il reale e il digitale, tra la città e gli schermi, i Berlin Kidz producono regolarmente delle fotografie e dei video per il web, appropriandosi i codici dei video di sport estremi.

It is enough to see the Berlin Kidz sliding down with a rope from the roofs of Berlin illegally paint buildings – or to observe the painted masks of their metropolitan tribe, or watch them ride the subway cars while risking their lives – to understand that graffiti are no longer a child’s play as it was in the 80s. Like surfing, snowboarding or mountain biking, graffiti has become an extreme sport practiced for pleasure as much as to feel the adrenaline flowing in the veins. Over time, they have become structured, giving life to an industry that produces cans, streetwear, events. But the rules of the game have changed little or nothing. Everything is still based on the ability to make one’s name circulate more and more: getting up. For this reason, in a world that is divided between real and digital, between the city and the screens, the Berlin Kidz regularly produce photographs and videos for the web, using the same expressing codes of the extreme sports videos.
